  PERSONAL GROWTH ARTICLES I

Remedy for a Stumbling Saint

When God saved you, He "saved your soul, not your body". The Old Sin Nature still resides in your body, and tempts you to sin in various ways. God basically says, "You have sin, it is in you. I know it's there, you should admit that it's there. If you don't admit that it's there, you lie, and that in itself is a sin".

Holy Spirit & Regeneration

The New Birth which our Lord Jesus speaks about is what we theologically know as "Regeneration". Do we really understand this act in its fullest degree? What is "New Birth", and what is it's effect on the believer? Let's begin our study with a look at the history of the Doctrine of Regeneration.

Product of the Christian Life

Every Christian should be interested in living the "Christian Life", but for many believers the alternatives are either licentiousness or legalism. There were a group of Christians (?) in the early Church who called themselves "Gnostics", and they believed that salvation in Christ freed you so that you could sin and pursue hedonism. There are many Christians (?) who follow this path today.

Confession of Sin

The presence of the Sin Nature in the soul guarantees that the Christian believer will have a problem with active personal sin for the rest of his life on earth. While you do not lose your salvation each time you sin, your personal growth and effectiveness are stifled as long as there is a rift in your fellowship with God. Confession is the answer!

What About Prayer?

"Prayer", just like the "Study of God's Word", is often the most "neglected" discipline in the Christian life. This should not be the case. During my lifetime I have seen prayer abused, misused, and ignored by believers. Understand this, God is your Heavenly Father, and He is also the best Friend you'll ever have. He expects you to build a relationship with Him through prayer.

Why do I need a Redemmer

Most people, particularly in America, have an innate sense that they are "good at heart". Most people, when they hear the Gospel preached, immediately assume they are Christians because they live "a good life". This assumption in itself locks many people away from a relationship with Jesus Christ or with the Heavenly Father.

Mechanics of Spiritual Growth

God has promised many things for the believer: that we will prosper, that we will have perfect peace, that our way will be guided, that we will be full of joy. Sadly, it is a fact that many believers today are living a less than victorious life in Christ. This should not be!

What is the Atonement?

It is a fact that man needs to be redeemed from his sinful state, but it is also a Biblical fact that Christ "alone" is the Redeemer. Once God convicts the sinner that he needs a Redeemer, Satan's tactic is to cloud the doctrine of Redemption by offering other Redeemers than Christ.

What Is A Christian?

You may think this to be a rather impertinent document, but it is becoming "increasingly obvious" that most people don't have the slightest idea what Christianity is, or what it means to be a Christian.

What Is The Church?

A description of what the church is using many biblical references.

The Way To Preferment

An idle man and a Christian are names which do not harmonize. Every Christian has enough to do to occupy all his time, and he whose life is spent in ease and in doing nothing, should doubt altogether his religion (Christianity) ... An idle, slothful person can never be a Christian.

What Is God's Will For Your Life?

Inside the will of God there is no failure. Outside the will of God there is no success. What is God's Will for your life?

Life Changing Questions

When I was a young Christian I remember going and hearing some preachers talking about "the terror of the Lord". That is, they were known back then as "Hell Fire and Damnation" preachers. I wonder - "Were there Life Changing Questions in their messages?"

Grab The Plow

The Bible is indeed an amazing Book. It uses the topic of plowing to teach us many truths. Let's study and see what it has to say on this particular subject to us all.

Mere Triflers

Are you acting as if God does not exist? It is not that you have denied Him per se, but you have confined Him to a remote corner of your life. You only run to Him when you are in serious trouble, or when you have no one else to turn to. If so, this message is for you. Don't think this includes you? Read on, you may be surprised at what you find within yourself.

A Holy Restlessness

Are you disturbed by the distance, if any, there is between you and God? Does your soul yearn for a closer walk with Him? Does your heart break for all those - family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and nations - who do not know Him personally and are separated from Him because of their sin? Then this message is for you!

Have I Denied Christ?

Every day believers are faced with the temp- tation to say with their lips or express through their lifestyles what Peter said on the night that he denied the Lord three times - "I do not know the man." The question we must personally ask ourselves is - "Is it I?" Am I guilty of holding my Savior and Lord in total contempt before this world? Have I denied Jesus?

The Ups And Downs

Many falter in their walk with the Lord. It is almost as though they are on a roller coaster ride - up one day and down the next; victorious one time and defeated the next; obedient one minute and disobedient the next; taking two steps forward only to stumble three steps backwards. What can be done to stop this harrowing experience?

True Piety

How often do you think about God? When you do direct your attention toward Him, what kind of thoughts fill your mind? Do you think about His character, attributes, ways, law, promises, or judgments? Or are you preoccupied with your own life and its activities? Or perhaps you are like so many who only turn their focus and attention to Him on Sunday while attending Church?

What Christ Did For Women

Christianity has done much to elevate the female sex. It has taught that woman is an heir of the grace of life as well as man; that, while she is inferior in physical vigor, she is equal in the most important respect; that she is a fellow traveler with him to a higher world; and that in every way she is entitled to all the blessings which redemption confers, as much as he is.

Wishy-Washy Christianity

What is said in 2 Kings 17:33 of what the heathen colonists brought in from Assyria is remarkably descriptive of many professing Christians: 'They worshipped the Lord, but they also served their own gods.'

Called Out Of Darkness

Separating ourselves from the "unfruitful works of darkness" is not enough. We cannot be silent, turn our heads the other way, and ignore them. We must also speak out - "reprove" them - no matter what the cost!

When Storms Try The Firmest Anchors

God's people are not without trial - nor without God in time of trial. The Scriptures abound with verses that mention our feet or steps slipping, our being sifted as wheat by the devil himself, and our falling down.

Controlling Sexual Behavior

God is not some cosmic prude, as many Christians would have you believe. The same God who created the heavens and the earth, also created man and woman "complete with their sexuality". The act of love was given to mankind by a loving God.

Resisting Pornography

Pornography is a sin that is not only invading our society…it is invading our churches…it is invading Christians. It is destroying families and relationships with God.

Warnings Against Astrology

Back in the 70's, "What's your sign?" was one of the most common questions used between people to socially 'break the ice' when they first met. It doesn't disturb me that the heathen dabble in astrology, but Christians?

Are Christians Under The Law?

There are a number of Christians who are confused about their relationship with the Law of Moses (Mosaic Law). Yet the Scripture makes it plain that the Law, though righteous, served no purpose in saving man from his sins.

Blaspheme The Holy Spirit?

Long have I heard many preachers, both Protestant and Catholic, preach about the "Last Great Deadline" from God, Blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. Blaspheme against the Spirit has become "a hammer" in the hand of many holiness preachers, a hammer used to batter the faithful back into line. But the Bible says: (Part of the "System Theology" Studies)

Knowing God Through Faith

The "natural man" or unsaved person cannot hope to learn all there is to know about God. You may have a sort of "God Consciousness" before you are saved - history has proved the existence of such a consciousness, an inner knowledge that there is a God.

A Word of Rebuke?

What is your reaction to "hard" preaching? Many people expect the preacher to deliver a message that will make them "feel good." They want to be encouraged. They want to be uplifted. They want to be told that "Something Good is going to happen to them." Although a message from God can include all these things, to hear a swift rebuke or a message of correction and instruction is just as Scriptural. In this message, we would like to examine the Word of God to see what it says about this matter."

Sin Is No Joke

Either sin must die or we must die. If we be ruled by sin, we shall inevitably be ruined by it. How many of us as Christians really "hate Sin" as we should? How many of us really understand its "awful consequences" in our own lives and the lives of others?

Examine Yourself

We are all moving in one of two directions. We are either moving toward greater restraint in our lives or more toward loose living. "Which way are you headed?" There is a direction that we are all moving in. There is an end to all of our daily choices. There is a destination to our way of living.

Does Your Heart Pass Inspection?

There are certain requirements that a car must meet in order to pass inspection. Even so our hearts can be said to have a special checklist to follow in order to determine if they pass God's inspection.

Are You A Happy Christian?

Are you a Happy Christian? Why or why not? Is it possible for a Christian to "rejoice evermore" even in the midst of adverse circumstances? Does the Bible say anything concerning our joy, if so what?

Baptism In Who's Name?

There are, believe it or not, two ways that Christians are baptized today by pastors of the Church. The Penticostal and Holiness churches (who don't believe in the trinty) baptize only in the name of "Jesus". Others baptize in the name of the "Father, Son and Holy Ghost". Is there truly a right way to baptize someone?

Obligated To Keep The Sabbath?

Many times the question comes up concerning the "Sabbath Day" and whether or not we should indeed celebrate it on Saturday. We see, of course, that one of the denomination has even made it a major doctrine of their religion. Should we worship on Saturday instead of Sunday?

Forgiving Others

Jeanette Lockerbie in The Image of Joy tells about having overheard a Christian say about a fellow believer, "I've buried the hatchet - but I've left the handle sticking up." A man by the name of Sydney Harris said it this way - "There's no point in burying a hatchet if you're going to put up a marker on the site." How are you doing at "Forgiving Others"?

Influencing Others

"We are called to be thermostats, not thermometers - affecting our environment, not reflecting it." Just as salt preserves food from putrefaction, even so are we called by God to preserve the world from putrefaction and destruction through the message of Jesus Christ!

Biblical Fasting

The question comes up many times in Christian circles concerning fasting, whether a Christian should or should not. Is there any benefit or is this simply an "Old Testament" type of thing that we can ignore today?

Spiritual Gifts

The purpose of this paper is to look at what the Word of God says about the issue of Spiritual Gifts and not so much what denominations, church doctrines, or what other Christians say or believe.

May God Bless You
