         The oldest member of the " Poole Family" that was found in 2020 is John Robert Poole ( 1 ) who was born in June, 1704 in Staplegrove, Somerset, England.   Due to this discovery the below " Poole Family" was modified dramatically and re-numbered .....

         The below " Poole Family " members are basically centered in the Preston, Maryland area.   The family last name was originally spelled " Pool " and when the name was changed from " Pool " to " Poole " is currently unknown.   The contents of this document show them all with the current family spelling of " Poole ".

Keys to the below document include :

  • Numeric value is assigned with the lowest number being the oldest family members and the highest numbers being the youngest family members.

  • All women's maiden names, if known, are in " Italics ".

  • Family members names shown in " Maroon " are the direct ancestors or decendants of my children Kayla Grace Pickett and Kara Virginia Pickett.

         John Robert Poole ( 1 ) was born in June, 1704 in Staplegrove, Somerset, England.   His parent's were " possibly " Robert Poole ( 1677~1716 ) and Mary Mary Ann Tovey Poole ( 1681~1727 ) but that has not been verified .....

         He married married " Mary Ann Cooper " on October 18, 1736 in Romsey, Hampshire, England.   She was born in 1715 in Romsey, Hampshire, England.   Her parent's names are currently unknown.

         " John Robert Poole ( 1 ) " preceded his wife in passing away at the age of 43 on October 24, 1748 in Dorchester, England.   He was interred in Dorchester, England.

         His wife " Mary Ann " was pregnant at the time of his passing with their youngest son Thomas ( 7 ).

         " Mary Ann Cooper Poole " passed away in 1797 also in Dorchester, England and was more than likely interred with her husband.   They had " 6 " known children together.

( 5 ) ~ Elizabeth was born in Hursley, Hampshire, England.  She married " Andrew Lavington " and nothing further is known about them.

( 6 ) ~ William was born in Hursley, Hampshire, England and was baptized on November 18, 1746.  He emigrated to America with his brother John ( 3 ) in the mid-1760's.  After he emigrated he married " Elizabeth Ward " and they resided in Fallowfield, Washington County, Pennsylvania.  It is unknown if they had any children.

( 7 ) ~ Thomas was born in Hursley, Hampshire, England.  He married " Ruth Long " and nothing further is known about them.


         John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) was born the son of John Robert Poole, Sr. ( 1 ) and Mary Ann Cooper Poole on March 1, 1739 in Hursley, Hampshire, England.   He was baptized on October 2, 1739 in Stalbridge, Stalbridge, Dorset, England.

         " John " and his brother " William ( 6 ) " were the only children of John Robert Poole, Sr. ( 1 ) that emigrated to America together in the mid-1760's.   " John " settled in Dorchester County, Maryland and " William ( 6 ) " settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania.

         " John " married " Mary Ann 'Aney' Wallis " on October 13, 1768 in Dorchester County, Maryland.   She was born on May 16, 1750 in Kent Island, Queen Anne's County, Maryland.   The name of her parents is currently unknown.

         " John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) " passed away at the age of 54 in 1794 and it is currently unknown if it was prior to or after the birth of his son " William ( 15 ) ".   It is also currently unknown where " John " was interred.

         His wife " Aney " passed away in September, 1794, possibly due to childbirth problems, and it is also unknown where she was interred.   They had " 6 " known children together.

         Levin Poole ( 10 ) was born the 1st child and 1st son of John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) and Mary Ann 'Aney' Wallis Poole on August 4, 1776 in Dorchester County, Maryland.

         He married " Elisabeth Emerson " on January 18, 1797 in Dorchester County, Maryland.   Elisabeth was born, year unknown, the daughter of Samuel Ambrose Emerson and her mother's name is currently unknown.

         " Levin Poole ( 10 ) " preceded his wife in passing away at the age of 55 on April 6, 1832 and it is currently unknown where he was interred.

         " Elisabeth Emerson Poole " passed away on October 20, 1844 and she was more than likely interred with her husband.   They had " 8 " known child.

         Isaac Poole ( 12 ) was born the 3rd child and 2nd son of John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) and Mary Ann 'Aney' Wallis Poole on August 2, 1779 in Dorchester County, Maryland.

         He married " Lydia Wright " on March 16, 1804 in Caroline County, Maryland.   Her parent's names and date of birth are currently unknown.

         " Lydia Wright Poole " preceded her husband in passing away on November 5, 1810 due to complication of child birth.   It is not known if " Isaac " ever remarried.

         " Isaac Poole ( 12 ) " passed away on October 21, 1821.   Where they both are interred is currently unknown.   They had " 1 " known child together :

         Rhoda Poole ( 13 ) was born the 4th child and 2nd daughter of John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) and Mary Ann 'Aney' Wallis Poole on March 15, 1782 in Dorchester County, Maryland.

         She married " Bing Whiteley " who was born June 18, 1781.   His parents names are currently unknown.

         " Rhoda Poole Whiteley ( 13 ) " preceded her husband in passing away at the age of 49 on March 26, 1831.

         " Bing Whiteley " passed away on May 31, 1837.   Where they are both interred is currently unknown.   They had " 4 " known children together.

         John Poole ( 14 ) was born the 5th child and 3rd son of John Robert Poole, Jr. ( 3 ) and Mary Ann 'Aney' Wallis Poole on July 22, 1784.   He was married twice.

         He was married first to " Ann Combs " on October 3, 1804 in Dorchester County, Maryland.   Her parent's names and dates are currently unknown.

         " Ann Combs Poole " preceded her husband in passing away on March 26, 1814.   Where she was interred is currently unknown.   They had " 2 " children together .....

         " John " then married " Eliza Cannon " on June 24, 1815 also in Dorchester County, Maryland.   They had one child together.   The date of Eliza's passing is currently unknown.

         " John Poole ( 14 ) " passed away on January 21, 1822 in Caroline County, Maryland and where he is interred is also unknown.

         Henry Poole ( 20 ) was born on October 25, 1800 the 1st child and 1st son of Levin Poole ( 10 ) and Elisabeth Emerson Poole in Caroline County, Maryland.

         He married " Esther Charles " who was born December 14, 1793 in Caroline County, Maryland.   Her parent's names are currently unknown.

         In the 1850 census ( recorded on September 10, 1850 ) " Henry " is noted as a 49 year old farmer near Denton, Caroline County, Maryland.   " Esther " is noted as being 56 years old.   Their two youngest children are residing with them :
         " Annie " ~ ( age 19 )
         Levin ~ ( age 17 - Working on the farm )
         Also residing with them are William G. Andrews ~ ( age 12 ) and Mary Lane ~ ( age 10 )

         " Henry Poole ( 20 ) " preceded his wife in passing away at the age of 57 on March 7, 1858 in Caroline County, Maryland.   Where he was interred is currently unknown, however it could have been on his farm.

         In the 1860 census ( recorded on September 3, 1860 ) " Henry's " son " Levin ( 38 ) " is now shown as being a 27 year old, single, and running that which was his dad's farm.   Residing with him are his mother " Esther " ~ ( age 67 ) , his sister Annie ~ ( age 30 ) , his widowed sister Sarah Jane Meloney ( 36 ) ~ ( age 33 ) and her daughter Sarah " Louisa " Meloney ~ ( age 8 ) .   Also still residing with them is Mary Lane ~ ( age 21 ) and a new " Farm Hand " John R. Fountain ~ ( age 16 ) .....

         In the 1870 census ( recorded on June 23, 1870 ) Levin ( 38 ) is now shown as being 37 years old, married, and still farming the same farm and his mother " Esther " ~ ( age 76 ) is still residing with him and his new family.

         " Esther Charles Poole " passed away at the age of 81 on January 18, 1875 in Caroline County, Maryland.   Where she was interred is also currently unknown.   She and Henry ( 20 ) had " 3 " children together :

         John Poole ( 21 ) was born on May 16, 1803 the 2nd child and 2nd son of Levin Poole ( 10 ) and Elisabeth Emerson Poole in Caroline County, Maryland.

         He married "Elizabeth Collins" who was born in March, 1810 in Delaware. Her parent's names are currently unknown.

         The family first shows up in the 1850 census ( recorded on October 4, 1850 ) " John " is noted as a 47 year old farmer in Caroline County, Maryland.   " Elizabeth " is noted as being a 35 year old housekeeper raising their children.   Residing with them are their " 8 " oldest children :

         In the 1860 census ( recorded on September 23, 1860 ) they are shown, more than likely, on the same farm now noted as being near Preston, Caroline County, Maryland.   " John " is noted as a 56 year old farmer and " Elizabeth " is noted as being a 46 year old housekeeper raising their children.   Residing with them are " 8 " children and one daughter-in-law :

" John " is noted as a 66 year old farmer and " Elizabeth " is noted as being a 60 year old keeping house.   Residing with them now are " 4 " of their children :

         Also residing with them is Ellen Hopkins ~ ( age 8 ) .

         Also in the 1870 census James ( 40 ) in noted as being a " Carpenter ", John ( 46 ) and Thomas ( 49 ) are noted to be working on their dad's farm with him and Willis ( 48 ) is noted as residing with his sister Sarah ( 42 ) and her husband William and working for them as a " farm laborer ".

         In the 1880 census ( recorded on June 25, 1880 ) they appear to be on the same farm however it now notes that it is near Harmony, Caroline County, Maryland.   " John " is noted as a 77 year old farmer and " Elizabeth " is noted as being 70 year old and a housekeeper.   Residing with them now are " 2 " of their sons, " 1 " daughter-in-law, and " 1 " grandson :

         Also in the 1880 census their 32 year old son Willis ( 48 ) is noted as residing on the farm right next door to his parents with his family :  His wife Sallie ~ ( age 31 ) , son Charles H. ~ ( age 6 ) and daughter Martha E. ~ ( age 3 months )

         " John Poole ( 21 ) " preceded his wife in passing away at the age of 79 on September 22, 1883 in Caroline County, Maryland.   Where he was interred is currently unknown.

         After her husbands passing " Elizabeth " moved in with her son Levin ( 44 ) and his family.   She passed away at the age of 92 on June 2, 1902 and is believed to have been interred with her husband.   Together they had " 11 " children :

         Anna " Annie " Poole ( 22 ) was born the 3rd child and 1st daughter of Levin Poole ( 10 ) and Elisabeth Emerson Poole in Caroline County, Maryland on September 18, 1805.

         She married " Madison Williams " on November 7, 1833 also in Caroline County.   Madison was born abt. 1808 in Maryland.   His parent's names are currently unknown.

         They first show up in the 1850 census ( recorded on October 5, 1850 ) residing on a farm in Caroline County, Maryland.   " Annie " is noted as being a 45 year old housekeeper and " Madison " is noted as a 40 year old farmer.   Residing with them are all " 5 " of their children :

         James ~ ( age 12 )
         Ann ~ ( age 9 )
         Lydia ~ ( age 7 )

         In the 1860 census ( recorded on September 17, 1860 ) they are residing on a farm in Caroline County, Maryland.   " Annie " is noted as being a 56 year old housekeeper and " Madison " is noted as a 50 year old farmer.   Residing with them are " 2 " of their children :

         Levin ( 51 ) and Lydia ( 55 ) are now both married.   James ( 53 ) passed away in his late teens .....

         Also residing with them in 1860 are Levin Poole ( 44 ) , their nephew, who is working as a " Farm Laborer " for them.   Also two other " Farm Laborer's " are residing with them :  James Jester ~ ( age 20 ) and Charles Williams ~ ( age 17 ) .   Also noted as residing with them are Cropper Brown ~ ( age 13 ) and Mary Jenkins ~ ( age 7 ) .

         In the 1870 census ( recorded on July 12, 1870 ) they are residing on a farm near Preston, Caroline County, Maryland.   " Annie " is noted as being a 64 year old housekeeper and " Madison " is noted as a 59 year old farmer.   Residing with them are :  Charles William ~ ( age 25 - Farm Laborer ), James L. Holmes ~ ( age 13 - Farm Laborer ), Jane Jenkins ~ ( age 16 - Domestic Servant ), Laura Willoughby ~ ( age 13 ) and Albert Hubbard ~ ( age 4 ) .

         In the 1880 census ( recorded on June 25, 1880 ) they are residing near Harmony, Caroline County, Maryland.   " Annie " is noted as being a 75 year old housekeeper and " Madison " is noted as a 70 year old farmer.   There is no one else residing with them.

         " Madison Williams " preceded his wife in passing away at the age of 84 on January 13, 1892 and was interred in the Wright-Williams Family Cemetery, Preston, Caroline County, Maryland.

         Anna " Annie " Poole Williams ( 22 ) passed away one month later at the age of 86 on February 20, 1892 and was interred with her husband.   They had five children together :

         He first shows up in the 1850 census ( recorded on September 10, 1850 ) as a single 17 year old " Farm Laborer " on his dad Henry's ( 20 ) farm.

         In the 1860 census ( recorded on September 3, 1860 ) " Levin " is shown as being 27 year old, single, and running that which was his dad's farm since his dad had passed away.   Residing with him are his mother " Esther " ~ ( age 67 ) , his sister Annie ~ ( age 30 ) , his widowed sister Sarah Jane Meloney ( 36 ) ~ ( age 33 ) and her daughter Sarah " Louisa " Meloney ~ ( age 8 ) .   Also residing with them is Mary Lane ~ ( age 21 ) and a " Farm Hand " named John R.          Levin Poole ( 44 ) was born on September 10, 1838 the son of John Poole ( 21 ) and Elizabeth Collins Poole on the family farm near Preston, Caroline County, Maryland.

         In the 1860 census ( recorded on September 17, 1860 ) Levin ( 44 ) is 22 years old and was working on the farm of Aunt and Uncle " Madison Williams and Annie Williams ( 22 ) " in Caroline County, Maryland

         " Once the Civil War had started " " Levin " left his families farm and joined the 1st Regiment of the Maryland Eastern Shore Infantry.   The 1st Regiment of the Maryland Eastern Shore Infantry were involved in multiple duties during the war, including the Battle of Gettysburg.

         In the 1870 census ( recorded on July 12, 1870 ) " Levin " is noted as working as a " Farm Laborer " on a farm close to his parent's farm.   The farm he was working on was owned by Levin Williams.

         " Levin ", sometime in the early 1870's, met and married " Martha Elizabeth Neal " on November 27, 1874.   Martha was residing on a nearby farm that was owned by Henry Charles.   Martha was born on October 31, 1852 and it is known that her mother's name was Elizabeth.

         " Levin " and " Martha " were blessed with the birth of a daughter on June 10, 1876, Sally Emily Poole ( 106 ).

         However " Great Sadness " soon came to the young family.   " Martha Elizabeth Neal Poole " preceded her husband in passing away at the age of 25 on September 7, 1878 and was interred in the Junior Order Cemetery, Preston, Maryland.

         He married " Sarah "Sallie" Ann LeCompte " on March 18, 1873 in Caroline County, Maryland.   She was born on February 3, 1850 in Dorchester County, Maryland.   Her parent's names are currently unknown however it is noted in the 1880 census that her mother was born in Delaware and her dad was born in Maryland.

         They first show up as a family in the 1880 Federal Census ( recorded on June 25, 1880 ) residing on a farm in Harmony, Caroline County, Maryland.   " Willis " is noted as a 32 year old " Farmer " and " Sallie " in noted as a 31 year old " Housekeeper " raising their oldest " 2 " children :

         In the 1920 Federal Census ( recorded on March 18, 1920 ) they are residing in a home that they were " renting " at American Corner, Caroline County, Maryland.   " Willis " is noted as a 72 year old " Farmer " and " Sallie " in noted as a 69 year old " Housekeeper ".   Their son Charles, age 42, is also noted as residing with them .....

         " Willis Poole ( 48 ) " preceded his wife in passing away on September 20, 1920 at the age of 72 years, 2 months, and 13 days.

         " Sarah "Sallie" Ann LeCompte Poole " passed away on January 6, 1923 at the age of 72 years, 11 months, and 3 days and she was interred in the Concord Methodist Cemetery in Concord, Md. It is believed that Willis is also interred there.   They had three known children together :

         Francis " Frank " Polk Covey passed away on October 19, 1922 in Denton, Maryland and was interred in the Concord Methodist Cemetery, Concord, Caroline County, Maryland.

         A 1930 and 1940 Federal Census has not been found for their family .....

         Sarah " Sallie " Louisa Meloney Covey ( 76 ) passed away on May 1, 1944 at the age of 92 years old in Denton, Maryland and was also interred in the Concord Methodist Cemetery, Concord, Caroline County, Maryland.   They had one known child together :

Merritt ( Car2 ) was never married and did not have any children.   He died while working in a Ship Yard in Philadelphia, Pa. of a ruptured appendix at the age of 21.

Raymond ( Car6 ) was also never married and did not have any children.   He died of Emphysema at the age of 56 in the hospital in Easton.   He worked during his lifetime as a farmer.

Lloyd, Merritt and Raymond are all interred together in the Preston Cemetery, Preston.

         Susan Elizabeth Poole ( 109 ) was born the 3rd and last child and 2nd daughter of Willis Poole ( 48 ) and Sarah "Sallie" Ann Lecompte Poole in 1880.

         She married " John Alfred Jester " on January 21, 1903.   " John " was born the son of William Henry & Sarah E. Blanche Jester in 1884 in Caroline County, Maryland.

         Susan (109) and John's date of death is currently unknown as is where they are interred.   They had three known children together.
