" Delaware River Scene "

      The above photo of three men shad fishing in the Delaware River near Lambertville, New Jersey includes a picture of "Lyman Stout (4)" who is the most senior family member for which a photo is currently available.   The photo includes the following: (Left to Right) "Lyman Stout (4)" & his two nephews, "William "Bulligan" Stout (8)" and "Russell "Bink" Stout (10)".   This photo was taken in ca. 1940.
      My direct ancestors and descendants are shown in "marroon".   Anyone with information or questions on this family line please feel free to "email me".

      Daniel (1) is currently the senior family member known.   He married "Susanna _____" whose maiden name and parent’s names are currently unknown.   Both of their names were taken from the death certificate of their son John (2).   It is assumed that they resided in Pennslyvania since that is where John (2) lists his birth. Family Notes:   William (3) is shown living at age 17 with his brother John (2) in the 1880 census.   He is shown as single and a Laborer.

Racheal (Servis) Stout,
wife of John R. Stout (2)

      John (2) was born in 1855 the son of Daniel (1) and Susanna (_____) Stout in New Jersey.   His grave stone shows the year 1852, however other records have proven that in error and he lists himself as 24 in the 1880 census.   He married "Racheal Servis" who was born in Feb, 1858 in Pennslyvania.   Her parents & siblings are unknown at this time.   John (2) and Racheal lived on 74 York Street in Lambertville according to the 1900 census.   The 1900 census also shows that his son John (4), his wife Minnie & their son William (10) lived with them.
      John's (2) occupation is noted as "Bootmaker" on this death certificate.   John (2) died on December 16, 1901 at the age of 46.   His wife Racheal died in 1940 at the appx. age of 82. Family Notes:   Lyman (5) married "Julia Moonan" and they didn't have any children.  Lyman (5) is interred in Mt Hope Cemetery in Lambertville.  Lyman's (5) wife Julia does not have her date of passing on their tombstone.  Nothing further is known of Lily (7).

Julia (Moonan) Stout,

      John (4) was born the 1st child and 1st son of John R. (2) and Racheal (Servis) Stout in September, 1878.   He married "Minerva J. Kroesen" who was born the daughter of Edgar S. and Anne M. (Lanning) Kroesen in September, 1878.   The Kroesen's resided at 53 North Franklin Street in the early 1900's.   After their marriage they first resided with John's (4) father at 74 York Street in Lambertville.   They later moved to 260 North Union Street.
      John (4) worked in the Rubber Mill in Lambertville making "Snag-proof" boots.   The birth certificate of his son Russell (10) shows his father's occupation as "Bootmaker".   John (4) must have started working with his father John (2) since his father was also noted as a "Bootmaker".   John (4) died in 1932 at appx. 54 years of age.   His wife Minerva died in 1943 at appx. 65 years of age.   They are both interred in Riverview Cem., Lambertville and together they had 8 Children. 10. *William Edgar Stout, b. Oct 17, 1898, d. Frederick L. Stout, (6)
      Frederick, (6) was born the 5th child & 4th son of John R. (2) and Racheal (Servis) Stout in Oct., 1887.  Frederick (6) married "Carrie Van Horn".  She was born in 1889.  Her parents names are unknown at this time.
      Frederick (6), like his older brother John (2), first worked in the Rubber Mill making boots.  He later owned and operated a butcher shop in Titusville.  During the depression he had to sell his shop, where he stayed on as a butcher for awhile with the new owner.
      Fred (6) died in 1967 & was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville.  His wife, Carrie, died in 1968 & was interred next to her husband.  They had 14 children together.  Only the names of those below are currently known.

Family Notes:   Minnie (18), Marion (19), Philip (20), and Robert (21) all passed away as infants.  It is not known, at this time, if they were actually the first four children.  However it is know that they were all born prior to Jeraldine (27).  Fred (22) is known to have passed away.  Clarence (23) was nicknamed "Beanie" and he is known to have one son named Barry.  Barry is married to "Marian _____".  Leroy (24) was nicknamed "Toots" and he is known to have passed away.  Jesse (25) lived at 189 North Union Street, Lambertville, NJ until his recent passing.  His wife Jenny has since moved away.  Donald (26) moved to California and nothing more is known about him or his family.  Jeraldine (27) is nicknamed "Jerry" and she married a "Consiglio".  She currently resides in Winter Haven, FL.  Jean (28) married a "Kratzer" and is believed to be living in Hamilton, NJ.  Margaret (29) was nicknamed "Peggy".  She married a "Majeski" and they had five children: Susan, Sally, Sandy, Steve, and Sherry.  Mary (30) was married twice.  First to a "Arnold" who passed away ca. 1970 and second to a "Virgil".  She is currently in a nursing home.  Ed (31) currently resides in the Trenton, NJ. area.

      Bertha, (8) was born the 5th child and last dau of John R. (2) and Racheal (Servis) Stout in April, 1896. She married "John Sproat" whose parents and birth dates are unknown. The death dates of Bertha & John, as well as where they are interred is unknown. They had one child together.

      Herbert "Stanley", (9) was born the 3rd son and 6th and last child of John R. (2) and Racheal (Servis) Stout on June 17, 1900. He married "Mary Hansen Culver" who was born November 5, 1904. Her parents names are currently unknown. They resided in Titusville, NJ.
      Stanley (9) passed away on August 4, 1959 and was interred in the Riverview Cemetery, Lambertville, NJ. Mary passed away on September 27, 1984 and was interred next to her husband. It is currently unknown if they had any children.

Herbert "Stanley" & Mary Stout

William Edgar Stout, Sr. (10)
      William "Bulligan", (10) was born the 1st child & 1st son of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout on October 17, 1898 in Lambertville. He was married twice. He 1st married "Myrtle Crum" in 1917. She was the daughter of Henry Crum. Her mother’s name is currently unknown. After their divorce he then married "Josephine H. Radeer" on November 11, 1947 in Lambertville. She was born in Peirmont, NY on August 17, 1903. Her parents names are unknown at this time.
      During both marriages William (10) resided in Lambertville. He died on May 10, 1967 in Lambertville & was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville. His first wife Myrtle, from whom he was divorced, died February 3, 1972 in the home of her son John (17) in Lambertville & she was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville. His second wife Josephine died May 2, 1985 of a Heart Attack in Lambertville & was interred next to her husband. William (10) & Myrtle had 2 children together and William and Josephine had 4 children together. A photo of "Bulligan" (10) can be seen above.

      Pursell "Pay", (11) was born the 2nd child and 2nd son of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout in 1900 in Lambertville. He was married to "Emma Hayes" who was born the daughter of James Hayes in 1898. Her mother’s name is currently unknown.
      Pursell (11) passed away in 1952 and was interred in Riverview Cemetery, Lambertville, NJ. Emma passed away in 1962 and was interred next to her husband. Together they had one child.

" Russell Stout "

      Russell (12) was born the 3rd child and 3rd son of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout on February 8, 1903 at 260 North Union Street in Lambertville. He was known by friends and family as "Bink" or "Stouty". He was never given a middle name.
      He married "Edith Elizabeth Shepherd" on February 21, 1923 in Elkton, MD. She was born the daughter of Harry Jacob and Amanda Carver (Howell) Shepherd on July 13, 1905 at 264 North Union Street in Lambertville. (See the "Shepherd" and "Howell" Family Histories).
      As children Russell (12) and Edith played together since they were born and lived only two houses apart in Lambertville. They lived in multiple houses in Lambertville during their marriage, the last being 22 Elm Street. Russell (12) worked in the Union Paper Mill in New Hope, Pa. until his death. He was a member of the Top Rock Club, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, enjoyed Shad fishing on the Delaware and was an avid baseball player in his younger years. His baseball playing team mates included his brother Edgar (15) and his brother-in-law Harry Jacob Shepherd, Jr.
      Edith worked most of her years at home raising her children. She also worked as a clerk in a store on Union Street in Lambertville. She enjoyed playing Bingo and was an avid member of the Patriotic Order of American's Lodge (P.O.A.). She served one year as the National President of the P.O.A. Russell (12) suffered a Heart Attack while home in bed on December 8, 1965. He later died in the Hospital in Trenton at the age of 62. He was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville close to his daughter Vivian (48) and his brother Edgar (15) who died later.
      Edith was found stricken in her home by friends on Thursday, January 20, 1994 and was taken to the Doylestown, PA hospital where she died later that night of a stroke at the age of 88. She was interred in the Riverview Cemetery next to her husband on Monday, January 24. Together they had 5 children. 48. *Vivian Ida Stout, b. Jul 14, 1924, d. Apr 10, 1934

      Elmer "Dopey", (14) was born the 5th child and 4th son of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout on June 11, 1908 in Lambertville. He married "Reba M. Johnson" on January 14, 1930 in Allentown, Pa. She was born on June 17, 1913. Her parents names are unknown. Elmer (14) is believed to have been named after Elmer K. Pickett ( #19 of "The Pickett Family" ) son of John S. and Louisa J. (Everitt) Pickett. Elmer preceded his wife in death, however the date is unknown. Reba died on December 2, 1981 at the age of 68. They are both interred in Riverview Cem., Lambertville. Together they had 4 children.

Dorothy Shaniger Stout, (15)

      Dorothy, (15) was born the 6th child and 2nd daughter of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout on January 17, 1911 in Lambertville. Family members referred to her as "Aunt Dar" and "Aunt Norji". She married "Walter Stephen Voorhees" on January 12, 1929 in Elkton, Md. Walter was born the son of William and Margaret (Heart) Voorhees on July 14, 1907. Dorothy (15) worked as a homemaker. Walter was a farmer. Walter died on August 21, 1992 in Freeman, VA and he was cremated. Dorothy is currently residing in a nursing home in Virginia. Together they had 3 children.

" Mitty Stout "

Edgar Studdiford Stout, (16)

      Edgar "Mitty", (16) was born the 7th and last child and 5th son of John Nelson (4) and Minerva J. (Kroesen) Stout on February 6, 1913 in Trenton.  He was never married and never had any children.
      "Mitty" (16) served in the US Army Medical Corps during World War II.  He was a member of the Leni Lenape Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and an honorary member of Columbia Fire Company 4 (Volunteer).  He had been noted as a baseball player, playing left field on the former Top Rock Baseball Club along with his brother Russell (12).
      "Mitty" (16) was a founder of, and also an avid supporter and umpire or many years of the Lambertville Little League along with umpiring at the local High and Prep Schools.  He also was a manager of the former Lambertville Indians.  He worked for the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation.
      "Mitty" (16) became ill at his home on Delevan Street on January 6, 1970 and was taken to the Flemington hospital.  He died the next day on Thursday, January 7, 1970 at the age of 56 while still in the hospital of heart failure.  He was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville close to his brother Russell (12) on Saturday, January 9, 1970.

John Henry Stout, Sr. (41)

      John "Red", (41) was born the 1st child and 1st son of William Edgar, Sr. (10) and Myrtle (Crum) Stout on January 28, 1918 in Lambertville. He married "Irene Minnie Hoagland" on March 4, 1947 in Lambertville. She was born the daughter of Eugene and Gertrude Elizabeth (Allen) Hoagland on February 25, 1928 in New Hope, Pa. After their marriage they resided in Lambertville.
      Irene passed away in 1997 and was interred in the Riverview Cem., Lambertville, NJ. John passed away in 1999 and was interred next to his wife. Together they had 6 children.

Robert William Stout, (42)

      Robert, (42) was born the 2nd child and 2nd son of William Edgar, Sr. (10) and Myrtle (Crum) Stout on March 10, 1919 in Lambertville. He married "Teresa Celine Dooey" in Clough Mills County, Antrim North Ireland. She was born the daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Blayney) Dooey on July 20, 1926 in Ireland.
      Robert (42) served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. He owned and operated the Pinnacle Tree Service in Lambertville, NJ for 40 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 7921 and a member of the Gideon's International Society. In 1986 he and his wife moved to Hudson, Florida to retire.
      His wife Teresa passed away on May 23, 1990 in a hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. and is interred in Riverview Cem., Lambertville. Robert (42) passed away on December 21, 2004 and was interred along side his wife. Together they had two children.

      William, (43) was born the 3rd child and 3rd son of William Edgar, Sr. (10) and the 1st child and 1st son of Josephine R. (Radeer) Stout on March 5, 1926. William's (43) birth certificate shows only "William Stout, Jr." without the middle name "Edgar" like his father. Later William (43) was baptisted with the name "William Martin Stout", however, he uses the name from his birth certificate as shown above. He married "Kathryn Prutzman" who was born on August 11, 1931 the daughter of Marguerite Wilson. They reside in Stockton, NJ and together they had two children.

      Margaret "Peggy", (44) was born the 5th child and only daughter of William Edgar, Sr. (10) and the 3rd child and only daughter of Josephine R. (Radeer) Stout. Her birth date is unknown. She married "Steven Bentham" whose birth date and parents names are unknown. Together they had 4 children.

Alfred Michael Stout, (45)

      Alfred, (45) was born the 5th child and 4th son of William Edgar, Sr. (10) and the 3rd child and 2nd son of Josephine R. (Radeer) Stout in 1932. He married "Marilyn Miller" whose birth date and parents names are unknown. Alfred (19) was killed in an automobile crash in 1955 at the age of 23 and is interred in Riverview Cem., Lambertville. Together they had three children.

" Vivian Ida Stout "

Vivian Ida Stout, (48)

      Vivian (48) was born the 1st child and 1st daughter of Russell (12) and Edith Elizabeth (Shepherd) Stout on July 14, 1924 in Lambertville, NJ. She was born with a Rheumatic Heart condition.
     At the age of 10 she was ruff housing with a local boy when she collapsed and never regained consciousness. She passed away on that day, April 10, 1934. One of her teachers sent her parents the following letter:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Stout,
      I certainly was shocked yesterday when the children came to school and told me of Vivian's death. She was such a dear girl, one couldn't help loving her. I know I shall miss her terribly, as she sat in the very first seat.
      Some of the children were grieving yesterday and were taking it very hard, but I told them that Vivian was a great deal happier than any of us, because she was with God, and wouldn't want to come back again.
      Please accept my sincerest sympathy and I do hope that God will give you both strength to accept the task of giving up Vivian to Him.

      Vivian (48) was missed tremendously by all family members in both the Stout and Shephard families. She was known as a very pleasant and happy child despite her physical limitations. She was interred in the Riverview Cemetery in Lambertville, New Jersey.

      Virginia "Ginny" (49) was born the 2nd child and 2nd daughter of Russell (12) and Edith Elizabeth (Shepherd) Stout on July 25, 1925 in Lambertville. She married "John Ernest Pickett, Jr." (See the "Pickett Family History") on August 24, 1946 in St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Lambertville. He is the son of John Ernest, Sr. and Winifred Ann (Bacon) Pickett and was born on April 21, 1924 in New Hope, Pa. (See the "Bacon Family History")
      "Ginny (49)" attended Lambertville 3rd Ward School on the corner of Perry and Main Street through the 8th grade (This building is now a Senior Citizen Center (1994)). She then attended Lambertville High School on the hill through 11th grade. She started working at Hosiery Mill on Cherry Street during the summer after she completed 11th grade and never went back to finish 12th grade. She did so to help her parents during the War years.
      After her marriage to John they moved to Lancaster, PA due to John attending Millersville State Teachers College in Millersville, PA. Their first son John, III (94) was born while they were in Lancaster. They then moved to High Street in Odessa, Delaware due to her husband, John, obtaining a job as a teacher in Warner Junior High School in Wilmington, DE. Later they moved into a home, that for the most part, was built by John on Cantwell Avenue, also in Odessa. John later became a principal at "Howard High School" in Wilmington and is now retired.
      While her children were of pre-school age she spent time home raising them. She also worked at multiple jobs, spending the most time waitressing and as a dress sales person. Together they had two children. 94. *John Ernest Pickett III, b. Feb 28, 1948

Joyce Elizabeth Stout, (50)

      Joyce, (50) was born the 3rd child and 3rd daughter of Russell (12) and Edith Elizabeth (Shepherd) Stout on April 1, 1928 in Lambertville, NJ. She married "Alfred James Buchanan, Jr." on May 1, 1948 at 74 Delavan Street in Lambertville, NJ. He is the son of Alfred James, Sr. and Carolyn (Hixson) Buchanan and was born on April 13, 1924 in Lambertville, NJ.
      Joyce (50) attended Lambertville 3rd Ward School on the corner of Perry and Main Street through the 8th grade (This building is now a Senior Citizen Center (1994)). She then attended Lambertville High School on the hill from where she graduated.
      Joyce (50) worked as a homemaker, raising her two children and then helped to raise her grandson Andrew (100) while his dad and mom worked. She and her husband "Jim" lived north of Lambertville. Her husband worked for the State of New Jersey and is now retired. Joyce (50) passed away on January 1, 1995 at her home at 7:30 a.m. after a battle with Lou Gerhig’s disease (ALS). She was interred in the Riverview Cemetery in Lambertville on January 4th. Together they had two children who were both born in Doylestown, Pa.

She married "Frank Voorhees" on September 12, 1959 in the Cenetary Methodist Church in Lambertville, NJ. He is the son of Frank O. and Edna (Titus) Voorhees and was born on September 12, 1932 in Ringoes, NJ. They lived in Hopewell, NJ. Her husband worked as an insurance salesman.
      They were divorced in November, 1980. She currently works as a waitress in Hopewell, NJ and still resides there. They had no children. Frank has since remarried and had one child by a previous marriage which Buzzy help to raise, Mark Voorhees.

William Stout, III., (85)

      William"Bumper", (85) was born the 1st child and 1st son of William Stout, Jr. (43) and Kathryn Prutzman Stout in Trenton, NJ in 1949.   He lived most of his life in Stockton, NJ.   In 1968 he graduated from Hunterdon Central High School.
      He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1972 and with the U.S. Marines from 1972 to 1975.   He married "Sue Scruggs" whose dates and parent's names are currently unknown. They had two children together, Taryn (136) and Tabitha (137), and were later divorced. After their divorce Sue married a "Heiney" and he adopted both Taryn (136) and Tabitha (137).
      "Bumper" (85) later had a daughter named Jenny (138) with "Sue Voorhees" whose dates and parent's names are also currently unknown and then a son, William (139), with "Diane _____" whose information and last name is also unknown.
      After leaving the military he was a salesperson with Uneeda Appliances in Somerville and earlier worked for Prince Range Appliances in Flemington, NJ.   He was a member of the Flemington American Legion.   He enjoyed putting models together and watching football and NASCAR on television.
      At the time of his passing he was engaged to Denise Apsley.   "Bumper" passed away on February 8, 2007 and he had four children whose mother's name is currently unknown.

      Jack (94) attended Odessa Elementary School (1st thru 6th) in Odessa, DE., St. Edmond's Academy (7th & 8th) & Salesianum High School in Wilmington, DE. He attended College at Millersville State in Millersville. where he received his B.S. Degree & later also attended the University of Delaware completing his Masters Degree.
      Jack (94) first married "Susan Walker Hall" on August 30, 1970 in the Church of The Messiah in Gwynedd. Susan was born the dau of Herbert Douglas & Margery (Buehler) Hall on October 27, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA. The marriage ended as the result of a divorce on September 27, 1979.
      Jack (94) & Susan were married while they were both still attending College & first resided in an apartment in Lancaster. After graduation they moved to Middletown, De on West Main Street as a result of Jack (92) being offered a Teaching position in the Appoquinimink School District, Middletown, De. After their divorce Susan moved to Wilmington, De. where she later passed away due to cancer. Jack (94) & Susan did not have any children together.
      Jack (94) then met "Tammy Lee Rogers" and they were married on May 21, 1983 in St. Paul's Methodist Church in Odessa, De. Tammy was born on Dec 28, 1957 in Dover, De. and is the dau of Richard Gordon and Bernice Elizabeth (Burris) Rogers. After their marriage they settled at the home on West Main Street in Middletown where they still reside. Tammy had two children previous to this marriage, Gary Lee & Christy Marie Ogden.
      Jack (94) is currently teaching in the Hodgson Vo-Tech School in Glasgow, De. He is an active Historical Reenactor. As a Civil War Reenactor he has been in several movies, the latest being "Gettysburg" which is based on the book "Killer Angel's", where he portrays a member of General Robert E. Lee's Staff. (Robert E. Lee is played by Martin Sheen). Together John (94) & Tammy have two children who were both born in Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE.

"Russ" (95) has been married twice.   He first was married to "Diane Sue Collison" on November 6, 1971 in St. Luke's Methodist Church in Denton, MD.   Diane was born on December 30, 1952 in Milford, DE. & is the dau of Albert Roland and Dorotha Lee (Stubbs) Collison of Greensboro, MD (See the "Collison Family History" & "Stubbs Family History")   Separation of this marriage took place with Diane leaving on July 13, 1991 & was ended by divorce on May 21, 1992.   Diane and Russ (95) have two sons together, Christopher and Ryan.
     Russ (95) then met and had a relationship with Ruth Elizabeth Hardy in September, 1991 (See the "Hardy Family History").   This relationship produced twin daughters, Kayla and Kara Pickett.   Ruth "Ruthie" was born on August 27, 1970 in Kent General Hospital, Dover, De. the dau of John Robert and Ruth Elizabeth (Dean) Hardy.   Ruthie had one child by a previous marriage to Bradley McReynolds, Eric Adam McReynolds.   She currently lives in rural Dover, De.
     In March, 1999 Russ (95) met and started a relationship with "Karen Lorraine Hanshaw" of Rochester, New York.   This relationship continued with their engagement on July 16, 1999.   On August 19, 2000 Karen and Russ (95) were married in the Hall of the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company.   Karen was born the daughter of Leo David and Nancy (Bishop) Hodge on March 25, 1959 in Rochester, New York (See the "Hodge Family History").   Karen was previously married to Kevin Lynn Hanshaw and together they had two children, Kelli and Kyle.
     Russ (95) has been a bit actor in two movies. The first being a PBS production titled "Lincold and the War Within" and the second being "Glory" which stared Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman.
     Russ (95) worked for the State of Delaware as a computer analyst for the State Computer Center and the DelDOT OIT Section from where he retired in January, 2005 after 35 years of service.   He is now employed by "Pioneer Concrete" as a concrete truck driver.   He is also a life member of the "Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company".   Russ (95) and Karen reside in rural Dover, DE. with three of their children, Kyle, Kayla & Kara.

In August, 2002 he started his teaching career at "Woodbridge High School" in Bridgeville, Delaware.
      While teaching at Woodbridge Ryan (143) met and became engaged to Tara Buemi.   On July 15, 2006 they were married at the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Georgetown, Delaware.   Tara was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Buemi and is also currently a teacher at Woodbridge High School.   She is a 1998 graduate of Sussex Central High School in Georgetown and a 2002 graduate of the University of Delaware.
